It is the Mission of the California Education Committee to Coordinate and provide education opportunities and programs to RCDs, Partners and the Communities.


Goals and Objectives

  1. Increase services to RCDs in educational programs

    Actions:

    • Develop a mechanism for dissemination of information.
    • Coordinate NACD educational program at the state level.
    • Develop quarterly newsletter to district directors and districts.
    • Develop a grant proposal to collect information on educational material and make available to districts.
    • Obtain Associate membership from corporations to support Envirothon and other educational programs


  2. Increase committee internal and external communication and interaction

    Actions:

    • Establish the communicate network for members.
    • Assure each area has a education representative.
    • Coordinate with Envirothon sub-committee.
    • Promote Volunteers in Conservation Education sub-committee

  3. 3. Encourage individual RCDs to integrate conservation programs into their annual Planning process.

    Actions:

    • Provide Educational Workshop at Area and Annual Meeting
    • Provide field tour on conservation education

  4. Strengthen partnership efforts in education

    Actions:

    • Hold joint meetings with other educational efforts.

Fuels Management Program
Goals and Objectives

1. Strengthen Forestry assistance to forest landowners.

Actions:

o Serve as Forest Stewardship Coordinating Committee as per agreement with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
o Maintain close liaison with other forest interest groups.
o Work closely with area coordinators to fully implement the 5 year State Forestry Plan.

2. Improve forest health of California forest

Actions:

o Maintain close relations with the State Board of Forestry.
o Support the implementation of the State Fire Plan.
o Raise awareness of member RCDs of forest landowner opportunities.
o Develop a coordinated approach on forestland with other organizations
o Work closely with federal agencies where local initiatives are needed to improve forest health such as Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP and water quality programs including TMDLs.

3. Improve CARCD role in forest and watershed health issues

Actions:

o Maintain a close liaison with other related CARCD committees
o Explore ways to obtain additional funding to strengthen committee outreach to member RCDs
o Publicize forestry conservation efforts.
o · Work with CARCD leadership to insure forestry issues are addressed in plan of work.

Prop 40 Fuels Management Program

The goal of the CDF Proposition 40 Fuels Reduction Program is to reduce wildland fuel loadings that pose a threat to watershed resources and water quality.
