District Size: 913,041 acres Projects: The primary focus of the District is to promote resource conservation in rural San Joaquin County. Areas of emphasis are: irrigation water conservation, providing soil survey information, water quality management, conservation education, land use, & endangered species legislation.
The District has a special focus on vernal pools. In 1998, the RCD developed an online brochure covering the history of vernal pools, their characteristics, and importance in conservation efforts.
San Joaquin County RCD successfully competed for a grant from the Department of Conservation enabling them to hire a watershed coordinator for the Lower Cosumnes-Lower Mokelumne Watershed. The coordinator's objective will be to reduce non-point source pollution from urban/residential sources. Overview: San Joaquin County Resource Conservation District is an independent special district with Board members appointed by the County Board of Supervisors.
Directors shall be registered voters of the State and must reside within the District. Directors must either own real property in the District or alternatively have served pursuant to the District's rules, for 2 years or more as an Associate Director providing advisory or other assistance to the Board of Directors, Or Be a designated agent of a resident landowner within the District. Directors serve 4 year terms. The Board's primary duty is to promote resource conservation in rural San Joaquin County.
