AmeriCorps
The District is sponsor of a local team of AmeriCorps volunteers who are integrating watershed curricula into the Napa schools and carrying out conservation field projects.
Benthic Macroinvertebrates
District staff is assisting in a biological study using benthic macroinvertebrates as an indicator of ecological health, in cooperation with the Friends of the Napa River.
Department of Fish and Game Planning Grant (Dry Creek)
District staff is developing GIS-based information for watershed planning purposes in the Dry Creek sub-watershed.
Department of Fish and Game Restoration Grant (Dry Creek)
District staff will coordinate restoration work at the Lamoreaux property on Dry Creek.
Farming in a Watershed Context
The RCD is coordinating a program of farm-based environmental monitoring; guidelines will be developed by a technical advisory team which is currently forming, and the example farms are to be selected later this year.
Joint Powers Agreement
The RCD continues to review erosion control plans under agreement with Napa County, and currently we are developing a database of information on erosion control plans approved up to now.
Lower Napa River
The District is expanding our dynamic unsteady flow model of the Napa River to study focus sites south of the Southern Crossing.
Mulch Grant
District staff is assisting in a multi-partner effort to measure empirically the effectiveness of surface applications of compost as mulch for erosion control.
Napa Creek Hydrology
Under contract with the City of Napa, we are re-establishing a discharge and sediment measurement station on Napa Creek at Highway 29.
Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group (NSWG)
District staff, under an EQIP grant, provides support services to the NSWG. Overview: The RCD is managed through its Board of Directors; five local landowners who serve as unpaid volunteers. The District is a technical information source for landowners, managers and residents. The RCD has information on soils, watershed, and resource purchase at the local office, and a county-wide soil survey is also available either on the web or in our office. Education is of prime importance to the District and the RCD has a large array of school oriented materials available.
