District Size: 75,717 acres Year Formed: April 8, 1952 Projects: The district has focused on water conservation, reuse, drainage, salt balancing and water control. Overview: The lands of the district comprise part of the great belt of fertile valley lands stretching along the west side of the San Joaquin Valley. Topography is nearly level with a gradual slope to the northeast towards the San Joaquin River. Local variations in slope of six to ten feet to the mile are general.
Soils are of recent alluvial origin, mostly of medium to heavy texture with the latter type predominating. Slight to moderate amounts of alkili occur in most of the soils.
